This tea is organically grown!

A rarely produced tea with large curled leaves creating an appearance similar to the traditional black teas of Ceylon or Georgia. The dry leaves are a combination of blueish grey hues with flowing curls. Once brewed the wet leaves are of fuller tones giving a fresh hay like or light woody lasting aromas. The tea soup shines crimson with slight wood and fruit aromas. To taste, a light to medium body to the tea giving a thick mouthfeel, subtle tones of cinnamon and dark chocolate alongside a pleasant touch of astringency. A refreshing and delicate finish.

Grown in full sun, unshaded cultivation and harvested in August '19. From a mix of cultivars rarely used for non-Japanese black teas. Then undergone Withering, rolling and drying processes by Sugimoto-san & family who took to producing Wakoucha around 2015. Since then it has become somewhat of speciality of his.

Wazuka is a tea town in the southeastern area of Kyoto Prefecture. Wazuka has been a tea growing location since the Kamakura period as a main producer following Uji tea processing methods. It thought that the Kaijūsen-ji temple introduced tea to the area and Zen Buddhist monk, Shonin Jishin was the first to cultivate tea on Mt Jubu and then in Wazuka.
