Hand Thrown in Devon
Approximate measurements 16cm height incl. handle x 15cm width.
A stunning stoneware iron wash teapot with hand formed brass handle. Created with great skill and care, beautifully balanced proportions, form and pour. Reminiscent of a household Tetsubin (iron kettle), no doubt inspired by Pop & Jez’s time spent creating and woodfiring in Japan.
Cornish clay with an iron wash glaze that’s been wood fired with soda creating a unique surface and texture. A speckled and granular gunmetal grey with areas of purple brushwork contrast with a painterly patch of deep smooth black, breaking through are mottled greens and greys. Inside, a smooth covering of blueish greens. Finished with their signature single hole tapered spout and tactile rounded brass handle its golden like colour, complementing the teapot perfectly.
Popalini & Jezando are a collaborative creative force, with a studio on the Devon/Cornwall border, North Devon. Creating functional hand thrown stoneware pieces that are both contemporary yet steeped in ancient traditions of the area.
One off piece. Handwash recommended.
