The House of Hope & Mercy in the Jungle presents a special collaboration with Totnes based confectioner extraordinaire Cafe Cloudywaaa to bring you a tasting selection featuring 3 types of Matcha alongside 3 flavours of handcrafted Mochi.

A great opportunity to experience Matcha & Mochi together, exploring the variety of Matcha flavour profiles from different processes and terriors complimented perfectly with the delicious textures & sweetness of Mochi.

Mochi are a type of Wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets that are beautiful pieces of edible art. Originally created to be served as part of the Japanese Tea Ceremony, they inspire an appreciation of artistry, nature and the seasons, being eaten before the tea is served to balance the sharp deep flavours of Matcha with sweetness.

For our Summer Tasting Selection we have chosen each Matcha from a different cultivar, harvested in different seasons to make different grades - all are grown in individual gardens in the tea town of Wazuka in the southeastern area of Kyoto. Wazuka has been a tea growing location since the Kamakura period & a main producer following traditional Uji processing methods.

Butterfly Pea Flower & Red Bean Mochi with Kinako
Koshian (smooth, red bean paste) in the centre. The Pea Flower lends it's natural blue.
Kinako (Toasted soy bean powder) on top adds a nutty texture & flavour.

Chocolate and Pear Mini Mochi
Shiro An (sweet white bean paste) with tasty dried pear pieces. Wrapped with cocoa infused mochi dough.
