This tea looks absolutely amazing, truly unique straight leaves and a large silvery bud. One for the enjoyment of the brewing as much as the drinking. Beautiful deep green thick tender leaves, handcrafted into characteristically long and heavy pressed style leaves. Lush tones of a yellowish green once brewed with a delicate light green colour to the cup giving bright floral fragrances. Such a delicious mellow flavour with orchid notes and a deep lingering freshness.
Cultivated in the foothills of Huang Shan, produced from a one bud and three leaves picking standard. Unique in the fact it uses further grown leaves rather than the typical young buds and early shoots. Pickers wait up to ten days before harvesting to allow the new growth to reach around 7cm. Harvested in Spring’21 from tea bushes grown at around 500m elevation using Tuzhong Shi Da Cha cultivar, a large leaf tea cultivar variety that is unique to Anhui Province.
Tai Ping Hou Kui translates loosely into English as (Peaceful) Monkey King. First produced around the 1900s. Its name derives partly after the tea farmer who first developed this style of tea, Wang Kui Cheng and partly after the main locations of which it was produced, Hou Gang or Monkey Hill and Hou Keng or Monkey Hole.
This tea is often regarded as one of China’s top ten famous teas, it has also become a national gift tea and is given on special occasions and stately visits in China. It is considered that the top quality Hou Kui is grown in the villages of Houkeng, Hougang and Yanjiachun.
Best way to enjoy is to brew the 2 or 3 leaves straight in a tall glass or glass teapot at 80ºc
Brew Guide Per Cup:
Tea 1 teaspoon (3-4g)
Water 70 - 80ºc / 300ml
Brew time 1-2 minutes
Re-infuse leaves 2 - 3 times to personal taste.
Brew Guide ~ Gong Fu Style:
Tea 3 teaspoons (8g of tea)
Water/Temp 100ml / 80ºc
Brew time 1st a quick hot rinse of leaves, pour away, 15-30 seconds for infusions thereafter
Re-infuse leaves to personal taste, like 4 - 6 times.
