Hand Thrown in Devon
Approximate measurements: 17cm height (incl. handle) x 13cm width. 600ml
A beautifully formed stoneware teapot from Cornish clay with a round globe shape to the body that’s very pleasing, making a small footprint whilst carrying a decent capacity. Intentionally left unglazed until the wood firing, where during, soda has been sporadically applied to the surface. Creating an amazing mottled effect and layering of colours, browns blending with greens and greys with a smooth metallic shine. Portions of the body reveal the toasted natural clay providing a great contrast of textural qualities and granular corrugations. Inside, the surface is left unglazed, with use this will allow a level of patina to develop as the clay interacts with tea oils, to enhance depth and flavour of future brews. A truly exquisite piece, from its fine deep lid with formed pinnacle, delicately tapered spout, to its handcrafted arched brass handle, creating perfect proportions and balance.
Popalini & Jezando are a collaborative creative force, with a studio on the Devon/Cornwall border, North Devon. Creating functional hand thrown stoneware pieces that are both contemporary yet steeped in ancient traditions of the area.
Each handmade and unique, therefore slight variations in shape, size and glaze will occur. Handwash recommended.
