This tea comes high recommended as a wonderfully bright and refreshing Green Tea. Comprised of large twisted and curled leaves of a mossy green hue and shorter downy silver twists. Shining brightly green with even tones once brewed, giving a light greenish yellow colour tea soup, that boasts sweet floral notes and light fruity aromatics. A fresh taste that hits the top of the mouth with beautifully bright and mellow flavours reminiscent of a reviving melon sweetness and touches of sharp tartness.
Harvested in Meng Shan in Spring from tea bushes grown from seed at around 1200m elevation using the Qing Cheng Gong Cha tea cultivar. With refined and skilful small batch processing following traditional techniques including three stages frying and rolling by hand and a bamboo basket charcoal bake, producing a very fine tea indeed.
Translating as Sweet Dew or Honey Dew of Meng Shan, the “Gan Lu” word evolved from the Sanskrit word for “immortal” thought to have come from monks of the many temples that nestled within the Meng Ding Mountain area. Mengshan is one of the oldest areas to have planted tea dating back to around 200BC, the first plants attributed to a monk named Wu Li Zhen, the cultivated garden associated with him was later titled an ‘Imperial’ tea garden and the tea produced here became a Tribute tea during the Song Dynasty.
