Tan Slip Gong Fu Tea Set by Popalini & Jezando
Hand thrown in Devon
Gaiwan 10cm height x 11cm width 180ml
Gong Dao Bei 180ml
This very unique Gaiwan is superbly satisfying, using a brushed tan slip that creates an intriguing effect that’s very bold and gives visual strength to the vessel. Similar in style to a Japanese Shiboridashi or ‘easy’ Gaiwan. Crafted from Cornish clay and beautifully shaped with a flowing elegance to the form. That provides great functionality and excellent comfort when brewing or pouring.
An amazing metallic shine with tones of copper, blending red oxides, purplish or orangey blushes and dark flecks with a touch of smooth mottled blacks and greys from the soda towards the edges of the lid and at the spout. The brushed application of the glaze is evident with linear grooves showing and in texture as well as a rougher granular feel. There is particular textural detail on the lid, the surface having the effect of hammered metal rising to a ridged ring and perfectly formed lid handle. Having great proportion, balance and pouring action. A real earthy feel to the vessel. Ideal for brewing Red teas, seems very fitting to the overall colour palette, flexible for any tea type.
Complete with perfectly capacity matching gong dao bei or equalising jug with exquisite flowing form and a set of three cups, classic in shape, form and balance with soft gradients of tone and texture.
Each handmade and unique, therefore slight variations in shape, size and glaze will occur. Handwash recommended.
