This tea is organically grown!
This is a delightful second flush Assam. The dry leaf consists of small, tightly rolled leaves with even tippy golden flecks. The wet leaf soon unfurls giving a great malty aroma with notes of dark brown sugar. The tea soup is a bright, clear copper colour. To taste, a smooth medium body to the tea, decent strength giving deeper malty flavours, a hint of spice with a brisk clean finish.
The estate is located in the northeastern area of Assam on the borders of Arunachal Pradesh and the Namdapha nature reserve, a world renowned haven for bio-diversity. Also positioned close to the Doom Dooma river, Brahmaputra river and neighbouring Bordubi Tea Estate.
Tonganagaon Estate was established in 1927, as of 2008 it was acquired by the Lohia family, taking on this small plantation of approximately 1240 hectares much of which was left neglected, and running at a reduced production. The Lohia's took steps to turn around these conditions, by planting fresh tea bushes in place of old, introducing organic farming methods, building a new tea factory and modernising worker facilities throughout the grounds.
Inside a small period of time, tea cultivation now spans approximately 540 hectares and the orthodox tea that is produced has become very sought after!
