This tea is organically grown!

An absolutely unique tea, first created in 2020 and totally unheard of before. This Black Gyokuro is a rare opportunity to try a tea of this type that’s so new to the tea world. It has elegant and slender leaves, dark woody tones with golden buds and stem with a light caramel aroma. The very tender damp leaves opening, retain some greens in the leaf giving bright floral and hay like aromas. The tea soup is a warming orange colour with a silky smooth mouthfeel, full rounded toasty caramel flavour and rich malty sweetness with a good lasting flavour.

Harvested in May, this Gyokuro has been grown using the Yabukita cultivar that’s shaded for three weeks. By utilising this shading method, the levels of amino acid theanine and catechins are increased, also increased chlorophyll in leaf creating a deeper colour. The raw material is the highest quality before undergoing its black tea processing.

Wazuka is a tea town in the southeastern area of Kyoto Prefecture. Wazuka has been a tea growing location since the Kamakura period as a main producer following Uji tea processing methods. It thought that the Kaijūsen-ji temple introduced tea to the area and Zen Buddhist monk, Shonin Jishin was the first to cultivate tea on Mt Jubu and then in Wazuka.
