Shino Chawan (2) by Popalini & Jezando
Hand Thrown in Devon, Fired in Portugal
Approximate measuements: diameter 11.5cm, height 7.5cm

A stunning stoneware shino Chawan that has a wide bowl and footed form, classic for Chawan, created with great skill and care, clean lines and balanced proportions.

Made from Cornish clay with a shino glaze that’s been woodfired with soda creating a unique surface and textures. The surface shows areas of stone greys and greens under a fine glassy crackle, together with large mottled swathes of rust like orange and unique patinas. The texture has a smooth orange peel feel with fine particulates and a soft satin shine. A very unique Chawan full of character and enjoying a real elemental feeling. Fired in Portugal in a Train Kiln during Popalini & Jezando’s time at ‘Pots & Food’ a wood firing pottery extravaganza.

Popalini & Jezando are a collaborative creative force, with a studio on the Devon/Cornwall border, North Devon. Creating functional hand thrown stoneware pieces that are both contemporary yet steeped in ancient traditions of the area.

Each handmade and unique, therefore slight variations in shape, size and glaze will occur. Handwash recommended.
