This tea is organically grown!

An award winning competition grade tea, a ball rolled oolong organically grown Tie Guan Yin cultivar harvested in 2013 by Tea Master Wei. an absolute classic profile to be savoured on very special occasions.

The ball rolled leaves are very dark in colour with a contrasting light amber tea soup with high clarity with its charcoal roasted processing and clean storage it has dark & complex layers of flavour, smooth, peaty, creamy yet toasty & roasted, a delicious well balanced character, reminiscent of whisky in flavour & feel.

Muzha is the old name for the Making area in north Taiwan; meaning ‘cat’s hollows’ after the picturesque landscape; first planted in the 19th century with tea plants from Fujian Province in China by tea master Zhang Nai-miao, one of the first ever introductions of tea to Taiwan & establishing the foundation for the region’s reputation as a premier Tie Guan Yin producer.

In Taiwan Tie Guan Yin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) is often referred to as a tea processing level of oxidation, confusingly this can be made with other cultivars like Jin Xuan (Golden Lily) & Qing Xin (Green Heart), when a Tie Guan Yin cultivar is processed in the traditional Tie Guan Yin style it is called ‘Authentic Tie Guan Yin’.

During our R&D trip to Taiwan (April’25) We found this area to be easily accessible from Taipei, Maokong is a beautifully lush mountain landscape dotted with tea houses & tea farms alike.
We discovered this tea in one of the furthest small tea gardens & were immediately impressed with the quality & enthusiasm for organic principles.

Tea Master Wei first arrived in Maokong in 1991 and established this tea garden, after meticulous attention to each step in tea production, he excels at the production of Authentic Tie Guan Yin and consistently wins awards for his tea, a highlight being - receiving the grand prize for the 2019 Outstanding Winter Muzha Tie Guan Yin Tea Competition.
