This Darjeeling with a warming mix of woody browns, deep black notes and silvery tips in the leaf giving bright and refreshing aromas. A copper coloured cup that’s highly aromatic with distinct muscatel notes and a smooth full bodied character. A warming flavour of fruits and spices with a balanced astringency. An excellent example of classic Darjeeling character from this famed estate.

Grown from AV2 clonal cultivar bushes that Margaret’s Hope and other renowned estates have been cultivating in the past few years. Whilst this helps protect against falling harvests, it in turn results in an excellent finished tea, full of complex florals and fruit notes.

The Darjeeling estates grow the Chinese variety of Tea plant ~ Camellia Sinensis var. sinensis and often the processing methods are closer akin to the production of Oolongs.

Margaret’s Hope Tea Estate was established in the 1830s and continue to produce many exquisite teas, located in lower Kurseong where the tea bushes grow at around 950m - 1,900m elevation. The garden follows environmentally friendly practices throughout, the tea bushes benefit from two  nearby rivers, woodland and a clean, biodiverse environment in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Originally named Bara Ringtong, the estate was renamed in the 1920s. The rather tragic story goes, the then owner, either a Mr Cruickshank or Bagdon named it Margaret’s Hope to honour his daughter, who visited the garden and was in awe of its natural beauty, vowed to return but alas on returning to England her ship sank and she was lost to the sea.
